Not your run-of-the-mill movie, "3 Idiots" is a quirky ensemble story about three engineering students in India. The film tells their tales of meeting and developing a friendship while working on the "Om Shanti Om" tower in Mumbai. It follows their struggles and triumphs in becoming engineers, and features the most popular songs in Bollywood (at the time). The film also managed to give insights about life in India, including the various aspects of Indian culture and how students are perceived. The film was "remade" by Karthik Subbaraj as "Jigarthanda" starring Siddharth, Bobby Simha, Avinash and Lakshmy Ramakrishnan. The film starts out with Farhan Qureshi (R Madhavan), narrating the story of his friends who ask him to narrate it to them; he is seen sitting at an airport waiting for a flight. He proceeds to narrate the story of what happened after they graduated from IIT Bombay. The film takes place in Dehradun, India during the period of 1994. The year is 1996, and the campus of IIT Bombay is filled with students. Three friends from IIT Bombay – Arjun (Rajkummar Rao), Aamir (Madhavan) and Farhan – have just graduated from college. They have been very close friends since their days in school. After graduation, the three do not know what to do next with their lives. Arjun has a chance to go abroad to study at a business school, but he elects to stay at IIT Bombay and work as an instructor for a few months before going abroad. Aamir meets the beautiful Bhavani (Shruti Haasan), who asks him to teach her how to dance so she can be a dancer in Bollywood. Arjun asks Aamir to teach him how to play guitar so he can play in a rock band. Farhan asks Aamir for lessons on chess, and tries to get his wife Kavita (Kangana Ranaut) to play chess with him, but she insists that they should first find an appropriate queen. One day, during an IIT demonstration at the local stadium, all three friends become "idiots" by impersonating celebrities like Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. cfa1e77820
