Wake up Sid, the charming little film that the director’s won awards for, was released in 2009. It tells the story of a stuttering young man who wakes up one day to find himself trapped inside his own body. With no voice to speak of, he meets an oddball group of people who help him navigate his newfound world. What makes this movie stand out though is not just its complicated story or even its realism but rather it’s hilarious comedy. Wake Up Sid has won over 150 awards since it’s release. It was nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe, Independent Spirit Award, Critics Choice Movie Award, and won the Audience Favorite Award at the San Diego Film Festival. The film stars the voices of Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory), John Oliver (Last Week Tonight), Thomas Haden Church (Spider Man 3), Stephen Root (News Radio), Michael Cera (Superbad), Jennifer Garner, Josh Groban ,Kate McKinnon, Chris Tucker, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Nick Kroll ,Timothy Olyphant ,Seth Rogen &David Cross. The director of this movie is Henry Joost. He has directed several award-winning short pieces in his career including, Love is a Mix Tape and XX/XY. He also co-directed the documentary Catfish with Ariel Schulman which is a story of a young man who falls in love with a woman he met on the internet. It was released in 2010 and it won numerous awards including, Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, Jury Prize at SXSW Film Festival, Special Jury Prize from the Las Vegas Film Critics Society and Most Innovative Documentary from the International Documentary Association. The music for this film is composed by Amit Trivedi who is most well known for his work on Udaan, Dev D and Gangs of Wasseypur . They say that inspiration can come from just about anywhere and this movie is a perfect example. The story of Wake Up Sid came from a short film called 'The Joke' - it was also directed by Henry Joost. He saw the short film, which takes place both inside and outside the body of a stuttering young man, and thought it would be an interesting idea to expand on. "It's not that we've tried to make our own version of 'The Joke', but we often see similar situations in real life which we kind of take inspiration from" (Henry Joost). The setting for this movie is in modern, metropolitan India and follows two friends. Sid, the fictional character is a New York University student who is back home for winter break. He returns to his childhood home, where his widowed mother still lives, but now decides to move back in with her after being away for so many years. After what seems like a simple change of address, he finds himself trapped inside his own body. Sid’s friend Richie tries to help him out but it’s not easy with the two living together again.
